To ensure public safety on the road, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) enforces a strict set of standards for drivers operating limousines, trucks, and commercial vehicles.

Drivers must pass a DOT physical examination that is performed by a certified medical examiner. Unlike regular physicals, a DOT physical is focused on confirming that there are no physical and medical conditions preventing a driver from safely operating a vehicle. Your exam will typically involve these elements:

• Vision testing
• Audiometric testing
• Urine testing
• Blood pressure evaluation
• Physical exam

In a few instances more testing may be necessary to ascertain your physical capacity to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

In an ongoing effort to ensure safety on our roadways and highways, the DOT recently added new requirements to their medical certification process. Now all physicians must be registered and certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Our physicians are certified to perform these physicals.
